During the winter season, we meet at Jökulsárlón (Glacier Lagoon). You will find us at the parking lot by our trailer, which is marked with our Glacier Journey logo. See map

Summer season and winter season, what does that mean?

All of our tours are season dependent and our base camps differ between seasons.

The summer season begins sometime between March and April. When it begins is dependent on the current weather as well as the weather during the weeks leading up to the season. If you have a tour booked with us around this time we will keep you informed about your tour. The summer season ends around late October.

The winter season begins around November when we launch our annual ice cave season and is active until late March. This, too, is dependent on the weather as well as the road conditions to the ice cave.

Do I need a 4WD to get to your location?

No, you don’t need a 4 wheel drive to get to our base camps. The base camps are easily accessible with all kinds of vehicles.
From the base camps to the tours we will drive you on the gravel roads in our specially modified super jeeps.

How do I book a tour?

We recommend you to book through our website, www.glacierjourney.is

For special requests contact us at info@glacierjourney.is

What is the duration of the tour?

Our snowmobile and super jeep tours are approximately 3 hours and our Ice cave tours are around 2.5 hours.
The under wonders of the glacier tour are generally around 5,5 hours.

What is this solo rider option?

The standard version of our snowmobile tour has two persons riding together on a snowmobile. If you would prefer to ride alone you can choose the solo rider option.

However, if you are travelling solo or in a group of odd numbers 1,3,5, etc. you need to book at least one solo rider, as we do not pair you with another solo traveller.

Can you arrange a private tour?

Off course we can! Just send us an email at info@glacierjourney.is and we will take it from there.

What should I wear for my tour?

For the snowmobile tours we recommend you to wear something comfortable, warm and cozy. You should wear good and at least semi waterproof shoes. We always recommend you to bring good gloves and sunglasses.

For the Ice cave and glacier tours you should wear a warm and comfortable inner layer and waterproof and warm mid- and outer layers. We do not recommend jeans as they become heavy, cold and uncomfortable when wet.

You should always keep in mind that this is Iceland, where you should be prepared for every weather at any time. The weather changes fast, sometimes within minutes. It happens more often than not that one moment it’s sunny and the moment after there’s snowfall.
A general rule is that less is more does not apply here. Always aim for being warm, dry and comfortable. Sunglasses are recommended for every tour as the sun can lay low during the winter months, as well as the sunbeams being sharp against the snow during the summer.

What equipment do you provide for my tour?

For the snowmobile tours, we provide warm, wind- and waterproof overalls. We have overalls ranging from size 120 cm (children) and up to 4XL. We also provide helmets, some with a GoPro mount for you to use. We always recommend you to bring your own gloves, but if you don’t have any we will provide you with a pair.

For the Ice cave tours, we provide helmets and crampons.

For the under wonders of the glacier tour, we will provide you with helmets, crampons, harness and ice axe.

What is your cancellation policy?

We provide a 48 hours cancellation policy. This means that the customer will receive a 90% refund if the tour is cancelled at least 48 hours before departure. If the tour is cancelled by the customer with less than 48 hours notice, we don’t provide any refund.
If the tour is cancelled by Glacier Journey for any reason, such as due to bad weather conditions, customers will receive a full refund.
Our tours are only cancelled if there is a risk for your safety and we don’t hesitate to cancel a tour are there any risks.

Can you pick me up at my hotel/guesthouse?

Unfortunately we don’t provide any pick up service. We meet on location at our base camps, either Jökulsárlón – Glacier Lagoon during the winter season or Hotel Smyrlabjörg during the summer season. Both locations are easily accessible with all kinds of vehicles.
